About the Process

If you are the dean of a medical or dental school in the United States, you should receive an invitation (via both email and postal mail) to participate in the Social Mission Self-Assessment.  Given the large number of nursing schools in the U.S., compared to the other disciplines, a randomly selected sample of 400 bachelor’s and master’s-level nursing program deans will also get this invitation.

If you cannot locate the invitation or are a nursing school leader who is interested in participating but your school did not get an invitation, click here.

Once you receive the invitation, you will be asked to respond back via email confirming your intent to participate and identifying the primary respondent for the survey. This may be yourself, someone in your leadership team, or a senior faculty member who will be responsible for completing and submitting the survey.

Within a few weeks of confirming your participation, you will receive a unique online link to complete the Social Mission Self-Assessment in Qualtrics. You will also receive a paper version of the questionnaire to use as a guide and share with others in your leadership as needed.

The questionnaire is divided into eighteen content areas. The primary respondent should review the questionnaire content and reach out to internal sources within the school to answer specific portions of the questionnaire. In field tests of the questionnaire, the following offices were commonly consulted:
  • Academic Affairs
  • Curricular/Educational Affairs
  • Student Affairs
  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Faculty Affairs
  • Admissions
  • Financial Aid
Your team will have up to 6 weeks to complete the questionnaire. Once the questionnaire is completed, you will submit it via the Qualtrics program to the George Washington University Health Workforce Institute (GWHWI)

After the close of the survey response period, the GWHWI will send you a confidential package of how the results of your school’s survey compare to the results of all participating schools.

* Qualtrics is a simple to use web-based survey tool to conduct survey research, evaluations and other data collection activities.
