The Mullan Institute

The Social Mission Metrics Initiative is based at the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity (Mullan Institute) within the George Washington University. The Mullan Institute is a university-wide initiative to strengthen health workforce policies in the United States and around the world. The Mullan Institute strives to create a world in which the health workforce has the competencies, courage, and opportunities to practice in ways that reduce preventable differences across groups in terms of access to quality care, health, and wellbeing.

We would like to acknowledge the late Dr. Fitzhugh Mullan for spearheading the creation and implementation of the Social Mission Metrics Initiative. Dr. Mullan spent his professional life working for a more just approach to medicine and health care. Equity was the driving force behind his 50-year journey as a civil rights worker, physician, federal administrator, state health secretary, assistant Surgeon General, writer, historian, researcher, and teacher.
This initiative is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).
